- Thorough assessment of your feet and toes, toenails;
- Assessment of current footwear and socks, compression stockings;
- Assessment of current gait, mobility and mobility items (i.e. walkers and canes);
- Assessment of skin, including bruising, lesions, wounds, rashes, or existing swelling;
- Review of current medication list pertinent to foot care and foot health;
- Review of medical history, chronic illnesses, current conditions pertinent to foot health;
- Assessment of presence of pulses, pain, numbness, loss of feeling in feet and toes (common in patients with diabetes and circulation issues);
- Assessment of living environment for current obstacles to mobility or fall hazards;
- Creation of a Nursing Plan of Care (which may include the following):
- Trimming and shaping of toenails by manual or electric file;
- Reduction of yellowed, thick, damaged, and/or fungal toenails by electric file;
- Filing nail edges to prevent ingrown toenails;
- Reduction of nail pressure caused by dead skin cells under the toenails;
- Reduction of corns and callouses with manual or electric file;
- All care is followed by the application of appropriate moisturizing lotion and a relaxing foot massage.
- I maintain federally and medically accepted level of infection control and prevention practices.
- I bring all my own tools, and supplies.
- I clean up any and all debris and supplies after our foot care session and properly dispose of it.
- If your condition is beyond my ability, training, or scope of practice, I will refer you to your PCP, podiatrist, or appropriate healthcare professional.
I do not soak clients’ feet, due to risk of infection, excessive drying of the skin, and the number of patients I serve suffering from loss of feeling in their feet (diabetic neuropathy, vascular neuropathy).
Although this is a medical service provided by a registered certified foot care nurse, I do not accept/bill insurance coverage. This service is often not covered. I do accept FSA or HSA payments and will provide you with an invoice of my service for your records. You may submit it for reimbursement, if it is covered on your individual plan.
