To provide excellent assessment and perform foot care to the highest possible standards in a friendly and professional manner. To include education and prevention as necessary with each encounter.
Foot care nurses are expected to provide excellent, thorough care to each client. Policies and procedures of Fundamental Foot Care will be followed to ensure clients receive the same level of care from any nurse employed by Fundamental Foot Care. A thorough foot and lower leg assessment will be followed by proper toenail and foot care. Documentation will be complete and accurate. Client advocacy will be provided as needed on a case-by-case basis. Client education should be provided at each visit, assuming the person is able to understand. Nurses are expected to present themselves in a friendly, professional manner, reflecting well on themselves and Fundamental Foot Care.
Utilizes the client’s health history, physical assessments, patient centered observations and information to identify their health care, social, and emotional needs.
Provides foot care in either a client’s home, residential living facility, hospital, or clinic site. First visits will include ensuring the client has a copy of the HIPAA policy (if desired), has filled out the health history questionnaire, and has signed consent forms for treatment and photography. Physical exam at the first visit will also include assessing for neuropathy via monofilament testing (which should be repeated annually). Each visit will include an assessment of pedal pulses, skin integrity (wounds/ulcers), nail condition, foot deformities, skin temperature and level of dryness, socks and shoes, and pain. Foot care will include trimming of toenails, reduction of thick/fungal nails, reduction of corns/calluses, and application of lotion with a foot rub. No foot soaking is permitted. Client education will be provided on care of feet, prevention measures, treatments, and how to seek further care if necessary (assuming the client is able to receive education, otherwise the education will be delivered to a care provider if available). Proper documentation of each visit will be recorded in the electronic health record.
All non-disposable items used will be washed by hand, then disinfected according to Fundamental Foot Care’s policy and procedure and packaged for re-use.
· Must hold either an unencumbered RN license in the State of Maine
· Must have completed the AFCNA Certified Foot Care Specialist program and received certification through examination and/or WOCNCB Foot Care Nurse certification
· Current CPR certification
· Computer skills, technology skills (phone or tablet App usage ability)
· Must have exemplary interpersonal skills
· Provide compassionate, person-centered care to all populations
· Must work collaboratively and authentically with others, be willing to share ideas
· Able to walk, stand, bend, squat, sit on low stools/the floor while working
· Manual dexterity to pinch, grasp, and manipulate tools
· Ability to see and hear, with or without the use of assistive devices (i.e. glasses/contacts, hearing aids)
· Ability to lift 50 pounds and carry equipment into homes/hospitals/clinical sites
Working conditions:
· Nurses may be working in conditions where lighting, acoustics, air quality, and temperature are unpredictable.
· This job brings nurses face-to-face with clients and may require the use of PPE to prevent or mitigate exposure to health conditions.
· Will be working independently
· Must use own vehicle for transportation
